Freedom, Inc.: Free Your Employees and Let Them Lead Your Business to Higher Productivity, Profits, and Growth ReviewI'm just writing to tell you how much i enjoyed this book. The
blend of psychology, business smarts, and good old fashion common
sense not only makes for a wonderful read but also opens up a whole
new dimension to psychology and the study of human behavior, far
beyond the traditional "couch therapy".
The argument that people are intrinsically driven by their need to be
productive, creative, self expressing and free, as opposed to just
being motivated by money, profit, and the pleasures they afford, is
amazingly powerful, both in its broad practical application as well as
in its philosophical and spiritual insight.
As someone looking to begin studying psychology its an idea i hope to
follow closely.

Hundred Percenters: Challenge Your Employees to Give It Their All, and They'll Give You Even More ReviewThis is my first book review, but I believe that "Hundred Percenters" provides managers and leadership with such powerful--and timely--information that it was worth taking my time to submit a review.
CIO Insight Magazine named this book a "Must Read for Fall." And they were right on. I've never see a leadership book filled with so many brilliant discoveries about leadership.
You'll learn about the Stages of Accountability, and how to manage people in Denial, Blame, Excuses or Anxiety. There's an entire chapter on the science of goal setting, and creating the kind of goals that have inspired the world's greatest performers to achieve such extraordinary results. SMART Goals can seem pretty DUMB after you read the research in the book. And I've seen it work: If you follow Murphy's goal-setting approach, your employees will blow you away with their achievements.
You'll learn what motivates and demotivates every personality type in your company. The "Shoves & Tugs" conversation they describe to motivate people is pure genius. Learning about Talented Terrors was a real eye-opener (those people with brilliant skills but a terrible attitude). I can now see their destructive impact and I'm a lot more comfortable having a specific script to manage them. I was blown away by the science of conducting Employee Engagement Surveys, and why, for example, you should never use a 5 point scale for your surveys. Or why you should never ask employees if they're satisfied.
Literally every chapter is filled with research and specific techniques that will blow you away. This is a revolutionary book that will forever change how you think about leadership.

Managing At the Speed of Change ReviewAs an IT consultant and project manager, dealing with change management occurs on an almost daily basis. Sometimes change management works, and works well, but all too often it fails miserably. Here is an author who understands why this happens and how to remedy the problem.
Author Conner runs one of the foremost consulting firms devoted exclusively to change. He is experienced, and has an easy writing style, allowing you to completely focus on what he says rather than hammering through loads of hype, meaningless acronyms and technical gobbledygook. He explains clearly why change initiatives often don't seem to stay in place after the initial implementation of the change. He then offers sound recommendations on the roles and responsibilities required to execute changes, along with the various pros and cons of different infrastructures for those roles.
Conner illustrates that each of us moves through our lives at our own speed of change, and how we have the ability to enhance our skills by understanding the uniqueness of people who have effectively dealt with change. These people have a vast amount of flexibility, differentiated by being extremely focused, highly resilient, well organized, and very proactive. When people like this work within the configuration of change, leading others through the eight models in the organizational change process, constructive results are bound to happen.
This is definitely a powerful, five-star book, and one that I have no hesitation putting on my personal list of the top "must read" books for IT professionals and project managers at all levels.Managing At the Speed of Change Overview

At a certain point of my career though, evidences proved I was not confortable with that statement anymore. The Last Word on Power: Executive Re-Invention for Leaders Who Must Make The Impossible Happen ReviewI have never done an LGAT like est or Landmark Forum, though I have read some of their concepts and found them interesting. There was too much other, negative material to entice me into those programs. This book, however, puts forth what I understand to be the core teachings of those organizations, and I have found them powerful, challenging, exciting beyond belief. I disagree with the reviewer who thinks that you have to have had est training or the like to understand this book. It is written clearly, Ms. Goss defines all her jargon concisely, and she gets right to the heart of the matter of transformation (as opposed to change - a great distinction.) It is the best "self-help" book I have ever read and I highly recommend it far beyond the boundaries of business re-invention. As an artist, I found her concepts liberating, and as a person I truly do feel that I am in the process of transforming myself. And on top of all that, it coasts less than a tenth of the Landmark Forum Weekend seminar! My only complaint is that the book doesn't list discussion groups based around the information contained inside.
