Inside Every Woman: Using the 10 Strengths You Didn't Know You Had to Get the Career and Life You Want Now Review"Inside Every Woman: Using the 10 Strengths You Didn't Know You Had to Get the Career and Life You Want Now"
by Vickie L. Milazzo...
Gals,if you have ever been to an all girls Tupperware party, you already may realize that the fun is not in buying all that plastic stuff to preserve our food, but it is the time and companionship we spend with the other women. We turn the party into a confessional of sorts, saying things to each other, we might never say in mixed company. We build each other up, congratulate each other on small things, but it means so much to us. The fun is in preserving our self-worth(Okay, and maybe our sanity), and it is the other women that truly understand how to do that. You may not realize it, but if you recognize this experience, you are already in tune with Vickie Milazzo's strength #10 of the 10 strengths you will find inside this book, and inside yourself, 'Female Fusion'.

"Inside Every Women" is a realistic and doable, no nonsense approach to improving your life, and your career. It's not some new age, idealistic, find your higher self and other senses, mumbo jumbo. It is a look at the ten empowering and marvelous strengths EVERY woman has within themselves, and Ms. Milazzo will help you find them. Fire, Intuitive Vision, Engagement, Agility, Genius, Integrity,Endurance, Enterprise, Renewal and Fusion. A chapter is devoted to each of these 10 traits. They are laid out in a well thought out, intelligent, and comprehensible way, and some terrific examples of how to gather these strengths are given as well. By the end of each chapter you will already feel ready to get up and go. By the end of the book, you may feel fired up enough to write your own book!

With each strength, you will also make 5 promises to yourself. The promises are the same, but applied differently to each strength. Each Chapter has a place to write down your ideas, that will be prompted by some insightful questions given to ask yourself. These promises will "provide the fuel" as Ms. Milazzo says. For example: Promise 1: "I will Live and Work a Passionate Life". For your "Intuitive Vision", strength, you will describe a vision of an accomplishment you want to achieve.Write it down, and Promise 3: what action you may take towards it each day(and then do it!). You will also find some personal stories from women that have found these inner strengths. In the last strength, the 'Fusion' section, a well structured meeting of women is planned out. Fahgettabout that Tupperware party, this Fusion party, where women get a chance to share their uninterrupted thoughts(no competition from burping plastic products),and get positive feedback, will be much more meaningful in your life. And..if you plan to do this, you can invite other women to the group who you feel are incredible and inspiring.

I found this to be one of the most inspiring and motivating self-improvement books I've ever read. I found myself nodding my head with recognition, and anxious to get to the promise section at the end of each chapter.Vickie Milazzo is a self-accomplished woman, who runs her own company. She's a go-getter with vision. She knows how to get things done, and is also pretty good at stressing relaxation plays a big part as well. She is kind enough to impart all these words of wisdom to us. Read them and just try not to be motivated by them. I think the strength she helps us find within us, may be applied to any part of lives, personal as well as career. Any area you want to improve.

I was fortunate enough to receive an advance copy of this book, and can hardly restrain myself from telling all the women I know about it. If you have a dream. a vision, of something in your life you want to accomplish or change for the better, I highly recommend "Inside Every Woman". It will light that fire you have glowing inside of you.

Enjoy the read....Laurie

Head, Heart and Guts: How the World's Best Companies Develop Complete Leaders ReviewDotlich et al's "Head, Heart and Guts" and Ram Charan's "Know-How" serve as perfect bookends to all that has been written over the years on leadership philosophy and practice.
In "Know-How," Charan constructs a more complete leadership theory integrating "know-how" with personality traits, psychological orientation and cognitive architecture. In "Head, Heart and Guts," Dotlich et al recommend a second new perspective on leadership and a fresh approach to leadership development with a focus on the integration of the head, the heart and guts. "Guts" as an umbrella term for a willingness to do the right thing, no matter how difficult that is - a willingness to put one's beliefs on the line!
The authors point out that we have been focused on "partial leadership" with an emphasis on cognitive skills and/or, until recently, on emotional skills. But leaders today are encountering decision points for which there are no "right" solutions and these skills alone will not assure successful leadership. They confront paradoxes and need to manage them rather than resolve them. They will need to act counter-intuitively at times and to trust instincts (know-how) in other instances. The need today is for "whole leadership."
Whole leaders balance people and business needs and risk/reward, motivate people from diverse backgrounds, and create real trust through unyielding integrity and transparency. Whole leaders, based as much on instinct and relationships as their analytical skills, are comfortable operating in an ambiguous environment and are able to make risks pay off.
Dotlich et al identify three reasons for singular leadership failure:
1.A disconnect between what you know you should do and what you actually do.
2.Misdiagnosis - a poor understanding of the type of leadership that is required in a given situation. Working globally requires a great of understanding of various cultures.
3.Creation of false expectations. Feel leader is manipulative.
Their recommendation for today's complex and uncertain world is a new leadership development approach which includes:
1.Hire based on criteria related to head, heart, and guts.
2.Encourage people not to be prisoners of their own experience.
3.Involve them in action learning experiences that force them to take on new and challenging assignments.
4.Place people in jobs before they are ready to handle them.
5.Provide them with coaching and other tools that facilitate learning from experience.
6.Develop leaders with the head, heart, and guts traits in mind.
Readers will find the discussion on "guts" of particular interest. The authors point out leaders or those aspiring to leadership roles must have a point of view, understand their values, and have the courage of their convictions. These strong people will hang onto their values and they, in turn, will be the ones who strengthen us and our organizations. Unfortunately, today, while the workplace is an opportunity to model good values, the workplace suffers due to the lack of modeling. Dotlich et al point out that our MBA schools, management development programs and consultants have all contributed to this problem. "Head, Hearts and Guts" provides a systematic way to rectify this.
This is an excellent read and is filled with case studies from companies such as Bank of America, J&J, Novartis, and UBS. The authors are senior executives who now serve as principals with Mercer Delta Executive Learning Center. David Dotlich, PhD, is President of Mercer Delta Executive Learning Center and former EVP of Honeywell, Inc. Peter Cairo, PhD, is the former Chairman of the Department of Counseling and Organizational Psychology at Columbia University. And Stephen Rhinesmith is a former ambassador to Russia and former president of Holland America Line. All teach and coach CEOs and successful management teams around the world.Head, Heart and Guts: How the World's Best Companies Develop Complete Leaders Overview
