Kelley: The Story of an FBI Director ReviewI am old enough to remember the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover. When Mr. Hoover died all of us wondered who would be selected to replace him. I was shocked when a former submarine commander L. Patrick Gray was selected. That selection generated speculation about the future of the FBI. Then Watergate happened and L. Patrick Gray was shown to be no J. Edgar Hoover and resigned. It must have then became apparent to those influential in these matters that as the FBI was,at that time,a law enforcement organization that a law enforcement professional was required to effectively lead it and restore some of the credibility lost during Gray's tenure.
Happily Clarence M. Kelley was appointed the third director of the FBI and an excellent choice it was. This book details the life of a man with unquestionable ethics totally dedicated to public service. The book itself is easy to read and what I found the most interesting is that it filled a lot of historical gaps pertaining to the FBI during that period, especially the tragedy of Wounded Knee and FBI involvement in events culminating in President Nixon's resignation.
This book is an excellent historical document as well as the story of a man who was truly fit to lead the FBI.Kelley: The Story of an FBI Director Overview
