The book's unique contributions are around coaching Post-modern leaders, coaching from a holistic missional mind-set, and coaching out of character and relational authority.
Steve Ogne and Tim Roehl are long-time coaches and church planting practitioners. Over the years their coaching has shifted from those planting "come unto us" churches, to those who are post-modern and missional. Their collective experience is detailed in this treasure chest filled with ministry coaching gems.
The authors advocate a hands-on approach to coaching that is both relational and experiential. A coach is not an advisor-teacher, as many who find themselves helping others often behave. Nor is a coach a passive sounding board who only listens and asks questions. A coach cares, celebrates, and challenges, as well as listens. Two chapters focus on the coach's character and relational authority.
Reading the book, I imagine many leaders will feel challenged to advise less, listen more, and grow in asking excellent questions. Several chapters will specifically help in this regard. The authors provide teaching, inspiration, and examples for listening and asking great questions.

I have heard both Ogne and Roehl coach and can tell you they practice what they preach - they listen, ask great questions, challenge according to the coachee's goals, and keep their advice to a minimum.
