Asia-Pacific Constitutional Systems (Cambridge Asia-Pacific Studies) ReviewI agree with the authors that there needs to be more scholarship on Asia-Pacific constitutions. Unfortunately, this book isn't it. It's more descriptive than analytical, providing a proverbial "chef's tour" of how countries in the region deal with constitutions and government structure. Each chapter comes across as dozens of examples of an issue that the reader is unlikely to remember afterward. The authors also take a moralistic and ethnocentric approach towards constitutions in the region, decrying "strategic action" on the part of politicians who fail to keep the best interests of the nation at heart (as if Australian or American politicians do). Part of the problem is scope: focuses largely on the Pacific islands, with some South and Southeast Asia. This is far too much to cover, and inevitably leads to simplification and even a few errors.
